The precondition for introducing the duduk into the symphony orchestra was the possibility of performing on it as a soloist, as well as playing within an ensemble.
The first professional compositions
Professional music for the duduk only began to be created in the 1970s. One significant work was Avet Terteryan's Third Symphony, where the Armenian duduk sounds in the middle movement and emphasises the folk basis of the music.
The development of the repertoire
In 1999 the composer R. Altunyan wrote another work for the Armenian duduk and chamber orchestra. Composers V. Sharafyan and E. Hayrapetyan also contributed to the duduk repertoire.
