The duduk and film music

Duduk music has been used extensively in cinema from its very beginnings. The Armenian duduk was first heard on screen in the 1935 film "Pepo" — the music was written by Aram Khachaturian.

The contribution of outstanding duduk players

An enormous contribution to film music was made by duduk players such as L. Madoyan, Jivan Gasparyan, M. Margaryan, Kh. Talgaukov and V. Hovsepyan. In 1988 V. Hovsepyan scored "The Last Temptation of Christ", and in 2000 the main duduk part in the film "Gladiator" (music by Hans Zimmer) was played by Jivan Gasparyan.

A voice you can't mistake

Duduk music plays in many films — from "The Chronicles of Narnia" to "Ararat", performed live or synthesised. Today its classic sound is increasingly combined with modern audio and video equipment, so the voice of the duduk is renewed and takes on a special uniqueness.
